Our Network
Web hosts give webmasters a place to store their site and a route for visitors to connect to it. Websites are stored on a machine called a server, which is much like a computer, but is much more powerful. Web hosts store their servers in a data center, a secure building that is specially built to keep websites online and your data safe. Data Centers and servers are connected to the internet by high speed data connections. Better data centers will have multiple connections to several different providers. This provides additional access during peak times and redundant access should one provider connection fail.
At Atlantis Hosting, your site will be hosted in one or more of our three data centers. Each data center in our network is served by at least two backbone providers who link us to the web with massive pipes and superb connections to get your data around the world in the blink of an eye. Both our Edmonton, Alberta data center and our San Antonio data center have four GigE connections provided by three separate providers. And our Baltimore data center has three OC-12 data connections to three separate providers. At 1 Gbps, each one of our GigE connections is 1000 times faster than the T-1 Lines used by some hosting providers. And because these connections are from multiple providers, our chances of going down due to provider failure are minimal. Our Shaw, Telus, SBC, Allegiance, Global Crossing, and AT&T connections will propel your site into cyberspace at terminal velocity!
The Network Operations Center is monitored 24/7 by a specially trained staff who can respond instantly should any problems occur. The NOC is state-of-the-art, including everything that we need to make sure your site is running at all times. Our servers are custom built to withstand the pressures of 24/7 network usage. They include hot-swap disk drives and power supplies, allowing us to load your site onto an extra server in just minutes should your normal server fail. Each data center's power system features dual power feeds for each equipment rack, uninterrupted power supply protection (UPS), redundant auxiliary power sources, and a 480 volt, three-phase emergency generator with approximately 72 hours of fuel. Our data centers each have two independent cooling systems, capable of maintaining the facility at optimal temperatures. The Data Center facilities are constructed of self-extinguishing materials and are equipped with a zone-controlled, non-water fire suppression system.
